The almond sector grouped in Fepex has valued the initiative of the German distribution group Edeka, which has decided to sell Iberian Peninsula almonds instead of Californian almonds in its supermarkets. The objective of the German chain is to respond to consumer demand to reduce transportation distances and promote sustainability in purchases, a measure that, according to Fepex, contributes to valuing European production, mainly located in Spain and Portugal. According to its magazine and under the titles "Almonds made in Europe" and "Almonds from Europe: simple and sustainable," Edeka explains that it has opted for its new "Herzstücke" line of almond products, made with European almonds instead of Californian ones.
