Germany's vegetable production experienced a decline in 2022 due to heat and drought, with a total of 3.8 million tons harvested, a 12% decrease from the previous year. The cultivation areas also saw a reduction of 4%, occupying 126,400 hectares. Despite these challenges, organically managed farms still produced 431,000 tons of vegetables, which accounted for 11% of the total harvested volume. Carrots remained the leading vegetable in production, followed by onions and white cabbage. The cultivation of asparagus, radishes, and fresh peas also saw significant declines. Additionally, the area under open-ground farming and the use of protective coverings for vegetable growth also experienced a decrease in 2022.
