REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono stated that Indonesia will focus on achieving self-sufficiency in sugar, eggs, and chicken meat by 2026 after successfully achieving national self-sufficiency in rice and corn by the end of 2025. Sudaryono said that after achieving self-sufficiency in rice and corn in 2025, President Prabowo Subianto directed the government to prioritize self-sufficiency in sugar due to its large demand, covering both household sugar consumption and strategic industrial sugar supporting the national economy. "This year we are self-sufficient in rice and corn, next year we will certainly maintain rice and corn. Moving forward (in 2026) the President (Prabowo Subianto) wants us to be self-sufficient in sugar," said Deputy Minister Sudaryono in Jakarta on Wednesday.
