The Indian government has transported 840 tonnes of onions from Nashik to Delhi via rail, as part of a strategy to control prices. This follows a previous delivery of 1,600 tonnes. The government has also released 1.40 lakh tonnes from a buffer of 4.7 lakh tonnes built during the rabi season, and has allocated 86,500 tonnes to nine state governments and cooperative societies for retail distribution. This intervention has helped stabilize retail prices in major states.
