Austria's grain production, excluding corn, for 2022 is estimated to reach around 2.9 million tons, an increase from the previous year, with wheat and rye making up 1.8 million tons. Maize production is projected to exceed 5 million tons. Despite rising grain prices and fertilizer costs, the grain supply situation is expected to be good. Foreign trade estimates show an export volume of 1.8 million tons and an import volume of 3 million tons. There has been an expansion in the areas for bread grain and a significant increase in soybean area, which is the fifth largest in the EU. Organic arable land makes up 20.4% of Austria's land, with an increase in organic cultivation of spelt, soft wheat, rye, durum wheat, and soybeans. The country has seen benefits from June rainfall after a dry autumn and winter, which helped make up for the lack of winter precipitation and supported grain development.
