Hungary is experiencing a surge in the prices of essential food items such as meat, bread, and milk, with flour prices likely to increase in September, according to Zoltán Lakatos, President of the Grain Association. The price spiral is attributed to a significant decrease in grain prices and an increase in demand, alongside the higher cost of input materials like fertilizers, pesticides, and machinery. The high grain prices have also led to overpricing in Hungary, making wheat more expensive than in neighboring countries, perpetuating the price escalation.
