The French Ministry of Agriculture has reported a 6.8% decrease in the sowing area for grain crops for the 2024 harvest, totaling 6.81 million hectares. This reduction is highlighted by a 7.7% decrease in soft wheat sowing to 4.39 million hectares, primarily due to heavy rainfall since mid-October 2023. The adverse weather conditions have similarly affected winter crops, including durum wheat and barley. However, to offset these decreases, there will be an increase in the sowing area for spring barley by 10.7% and spring soft wheat by 6.4%. Despite these adjustments, the area dedicated to leguminous crops will also see a 4.3% reduction.
