Fifteen years ago in Bilecik, a beekeeper who began queen bee production as a hobby with a single hive is now shipping to all parts of Turkey with 200 colonies. Living in the village of Kızılöz in Osmaneli district of Bilecik, Bayram Özçanak began beekeeping 15 years ago as a hobby by purchasing a hive for himself and one for a friend. Over the intervening period, Özçanak has increased his colony to 200 and sold approximately a thousand of his own produced queen bees across Turkey. Bayram Özçanak explained that his interest in beekeeping began during his school years, saying, "In 2010, a teacher friend and I each bought a hive. We started with a single bee each. In the first year, I increased those bees to 10, then I divided them and also collected some honey. Then I increased those 10 bees to 17 the next year.
