The Greek Ministry of Agriculture has started the process of compensating farmers for losses incurred due to animals being killed by plague and smallpox. On December 3, the ministry transferred 5,685,251 euros to the affected regions. This included 4,737,569.76 euros for farmer compensation, 785,091.15 euros as financial aid to citizens affected by restrictive measures, and 162,590.10 euros for regional operating costs. The ministry has credited the containment of the plague epidemic to the collaboration between farmers, veterinary services, and veterinarians, and has been commended by the EU for its handling of the situation.
