[Gyeongbuk Farmers' Newspaper, Reporter Park Du-gyeong] The Gyeongbuk Agricultural Technology Institute is accelerating the development of hydroponic cultivation technology using smart farms to enhance the quality of gerberas, a representative specialized crop in Gyeongbuk. Gerberas (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) are a major item among cut-flower crops, with steadily increasing cultivation area and sales in the country, and Gyeongbuk is the leading production area, accounting for 50% of the national cultivation area and 63% of sales. However, most of the cultivation in the country is done using soil cultivation methods for long-term cultivation (over 3-4 years), leading to quality degradation due to continuous cropping damage, soil-borne diseases, and deterioration of physical and chemical properties, and making harvesting and management tasks difficult.
