Gyeongnam Province is taking steps to boost the consumption of locally produced conger eel by providing the seafood to the cafeterias of major companies, such as Hanwha Ocean and Samsung Heavy Industries. The province will supply around 6.5 tons of conger eel to these companies through the Coastal Trap Fishery Cooperative, starting in mid-August. The goal is to expand the sales channels for marine products and aid the fishery industry by reducing the high inventory of eel due to increased production and slow consumption. The province will subsidize 70% of the difference between the companies' purchase price and the cooperative's supply and delivery price, enabling the companies to offer the seafood at a lower price than the market rate. This initiative is part of the province's larger strategy to promote the consumption of Gyeongnam fishery products.
