Vietnam's livestock industry is facing challenges in expanding due to high costs and lack of disease-free breeding areas recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health. However, the country has seen growth in poultry exports, reaching $84.6 million in 2022, with a significant export to Japan. The industry has also exported live egg-oriented chickens and poultry egg products to several countries. The construction of disease-free livestock production areas (ATDB) is ongoing, with some provinces showing progress. Despite these efforts, the industry is still struggling with high production costs and competition from other suppliers, preventing it from reaching its full potential. Small-scale farms and low biosecurity awareness are also posing challenges. Despite these challenges, farmers in ATDB breeding areas have reported benefits such as convenience for export and sale due to the certified status of their products.
