In 2023, Turkey exported 284,141 tons of hazelnuts, generating nearly 1.9 billion dollars in foreign exchange income. However, hazelnut exports from Trabzon decreased by 22% compared to the previous year. Despite being grown on 750,000 hectares, Turkey's hazelnut production is inefficient, with the country averaging only 85 kilograms per decare. Hazelnuts are Turkey's top agricultural product in terms of net foreign exchange income, and caution is needed to address potential negative impacts from climate change.
