The Giresun Commodity Exchange Chairman, Hamza Bölük, has called for an increase in Turkey's hazelnut production and quality to maintain its global leadership in the market. He pointed out that the average production per acre in other countries is between 150 and 250 kilograms, while in Turkey, it is 88 kilograms. Bölük stressed the need for scientific agriculture and agricultural support to boost production. He also highlighted that the majority of hazelnut gardens in Giresun are over 150-200 years old and need replacement, a task that farmers cannot afford without state support.
