According to Vietnamese media reports, the retail price of Chinese kiwifruit in Vietnamese supermarkets is 80,000-120,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram (equivalent to approximately 21.4-32.2 yuan per kilogram), which has to some extent broken the market dominance of New Zealand and French kiwifruit. In Ho Chi Minh City supermarkets, Chinese imported green-flesh kiwifruit are priced at 49,000 dong per box (6 pieces), yellow-flesh kiwifruit at 69,000 dong per box, with a weight of approximately 550-600 grams. Red-flesh kiwifruit are priced at 49,000 dong per box (4 pieces), with a weight of approximately 450 grams, equivalent to 109,000 dong per kilogram (29.2 yuan per kilogram), much lower than the imported red-flesh kiwifruit that were once considered high-end fruit. In major retail chains such as Go!, Bach Hoa Xanh, and Kingfood, most of the lower-priced kiwifruit come from China. For example, in WinMart supermarkets, New Zealand green-flesh kiwifruit are priced at approximately 139,000 dong per kilogram, although this is lower than previous years, it is still much higher than Chinese imported products. According to representatives of several retail chains, in previous years, the kiwifruit on supermarket shelves mainly came from New Zealand, while Chinese kiwifruit were mostly sold through online platforms or budget fruit stores. However, in recent years, the quality of Chinese kiwifruit has improved significantly, with a more uniform appearance and full compliance with traceability requirements. Many products have entered the supermarket system and are clearly labeled with their origin. In fruit stores, Chinese kiwifruit are sold at lower prices. In many places, green-flesh kiwifruit are priced at around 45,000 dong per box, approximately 60,000-70,000 dong per kilogram, while yellow-flesh kiwifruit are priced at 120,000-130,000 dong per kilogram. Yellow-flesh kiwifruit from New Zealand and France usually cost between 180,000-280,000 dong per kilogram, with the specific price depending on the variety and size. A fruit store owner explained that this year, the supply of kiwifruit in the Vietnamese market is sufficient, with a large proportion coming from China. Although Chinese kiwifruit may not be as visually appealing as New Zealand or French products, their quality is more stable than before, which has made them popular with many customers, especially those who prioritize price. There are also many suppliers on e-commerce platforms that wholesale kiwifruit at low prices, but most of them are smaller in size, typically with 12-14 pieces per kilogram. These kiwifruit are mainly sold to budget-friendly stores or in low-priced combo packages on online marketplaces. A representative of a fruit import company supplying to Ho Chi Minh City chain supermarkets stated that Chinese kiwifruit have the advantage of high production volume, low labor costs, and large-scale production. Meanwhile, New Zealand and French kiwifruit maintain a stable position in the mid-to-high-end market with higher but stable prices, targeting consumers willing to pay for quality and brand. Vietnamese customs data shows that in 2025, Vietnam imported a total of fruits and vegetables worth approximately 3 billion USD, an increase of 24% compared to 2024. China remains Vietnam's largest fruit and vegetable import market, with imports exceeding 1 billion USD. The large supply from China, along with price adjustments by traditional markets such as New Zealand and France in response to competition, has led to significant price differences in the Vietnamese market for kiwifruit based on origin and market segmentation.
