The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in South Korea has confirmed an outbreak of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza (AI) at a laying hen farm in Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, bringing the total number of such outbreaks at poultry farms nationwide this winter to 19. The strain identified is the H5N1 type. The farm's 44,000 chickens will be culled, and inspections will be conducted at other farms owned by the same agricultural corporation and those within the quarantine zone of this farm. The Central Disinfection Headquarters will also disinfect roads and poultry farms around migratory bird arrival areas at least twice a day during a designated 'nationwide concentrated disinfection week' from 1st to 14th of the next month.
