(Boryeong=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Yun-deok = Highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has occurred at a laying hen farm in Boryeong, South Chungcheong. According to Boryeong City and South Chungcheong Province on the 18th, at a laying hen farm in Jinjuk-ri, Cheongso-myeon, which tested negative on the 15th, 1,000 hens died on the 16th and 4,000 hens died on the 17th, leading the farm owner to report it to the Quarantine Support Headquarters. After the South Chungcheong Animal Hygiene Testing Institute collected samples and analyzed them, H5 antigen was confirmed on the afternoon of the 17th, and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency is in the process of confirming whether it is the N type. This farm also experienced AI in February 2022. Boryeong City plans to take emergency quarantine measures at the farm and slaughter all 25,000 hens being raised. A thorough inspection will be conducted on 37 farms within a 10 km quarantine zone around the farm, where 1,675,000 poultry are being raised, to check for additional spread. South Chungcheong Province also issued a 24-hour temporary suspension of movement for laying hen farms and related businesses in the province starting from 1 am on the same day.
