The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in South Korea has reported 15 outbreaks of the highly pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza this winter, with the latest case detected at a laying hen farm in Gimje. In response, 75,000 chickens have been culled and entry and exit controls have been implemented. The government is conducting inspections of laying hen farms and has issued a temporary movement ban to prevent the spread of the virus. Farmers have been advised to increase quarantine measures as the cold weather increases virus activity and lowers livestock immunity.
