The European Commission has revised down its sunseed crop forecast for 2024, expecting a harvest of around 8 million tons, which is 7,000 tons less than the December estimate and 18% lower than the previous year. This adjustment primarily reflects reduced production in Germany and Romania, with Germany's harvest expected to be 25% lower than in 2023 and Romania's being 38% lower, leading to Hungary becoming the leading producer. Heavy rainfall in France has also negatively impacted its sunseed crop, resulting in an estimated production of 1.7 million tons, marking a decrease of about 18% from the previous year.
