[Reporter Lee Jang-hee, Korean Farmers and Fishermen Newspaper] On December 11, the Hwaseong City Agricultural Technology Center entered into agreements with Jang-an Farm, Hwangol Alley Farm, and Bullo Farm to ensure the stable operation of the colostrum bank. The Hwaseong City colostrum bank has been operating since October 2022, collecting colostrum from these dairy farms, sterilizing and freezing it, and supplying it to local livestock farmers in areas where it is difficult for mother cows to provide colostrum. Colostrum contains a large amount of essential immune substances (immunoglobulins) and nutrients necessary for calves, making it effective in preventing diseases and deaths. In fact, the mortality rate of calves on farms using the colostrum bank decreased from 11.3% at the end of 2022 to 9.8% at the end of 2024.
