The Brazilian Pecan Farming Institute (IBPecan) is calling for government support to help pecan farmers in Rio Grande do Sul, who are recovering from floods and an 80% loss in harvest. The institute is seeking R$176 million to cover damages and working capital for the industry. IBPecan is hoping that vice-president Geraldo Alckmin's mission to China will result in the opening of new markets in China and India, which would allow Brazil to compete with other pecan-producing countries. The institute also emphasizes the need for strong support from the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) to develop new products for these markets.
