(Iksan=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Jin-bang = Jeonbuk Iksan City announced on the 3rd that it will purchase 2025 crop public reserve rice starting from the 6th.
The total amount of public reserve rice to be purchased by Iksan City this year is 9,993 tons. This includes 7,541 tons of dried rice, 634 tons of mountain rice, and 1,818 tons of rice flour. Additionally, rice affected by diseases such as rice blast will be purchased separately.
The purchased rice varieties are Sinddongjin, Chamdongjin, and Garussal (Baromi 2). Farms that ship varieties not included in the purchase targets through variety testing will be excluded from public reserve rice purchases for the next five years.
The purchase price will be determined based on the average price of rice in the producing areas surveyed by the Statistics Korea every 10 days from October 5 to December 25. An interim settlement payment of 40,000 won per 40 kg will be made immediately after the rice purchase, and the final difference will be settled by the end of December.
City Agricultural Product Distribution Division Director Lee Myeong-seok said, "The purchase of public reserve rice plays an important role in securing stable income for farmers" and "We will ensure that the purchase proceeds smoothly through thorough quality management and safe on-site operations."
