A report by DEFA group experts has found that Russia's fish and seafood imports in 2020 decreased by 7.9% compared to 2019, totaling 445.6 thousand tons. Red fish and shrimp remained the priority for Russian buyers. While imports of saury, surimi, and pelagic fish saw a decrease, crustaceans and mollusks volumes increased. The import of certain types of salmon and herring fillets also surged. Despite the pandemic, the total import volume for seafood in 2020 rose by 19.2% to 91.3 thousand tons. For 2021, there is an expected deficit in imported pelagics in the first half, but a positive forecast with the return of capelin to the assortment.
