In 2019, China was the primary supplier of sturgeon caviar to Ukraine, accounting for about 85% of the total import volume. Despite importing only 3.7 tons with a customs value of $ 637 thousand, Ukraine's top five suppliers included China, Italy, Moldova, Uruguay, and the Netherlands. Since 2008, China has significantly expanded its commercial sturgeon farming, producing over 150 tons of sturgeon caviar annually, nearly all of which is exported, making it a competitive source due to its lower prices.
