In August, Ecuador's shrimp imports reached 65,633 tons, a 7% increase year-on-year, with Ecuador's market share at 77%, a historic high. During the Shanghai Fisheries Expo, Ecuadorian manufacturers again raised their prices in the Chinese market, but faced resistance from many importers. Currently, prices remain high, and with the National Day holiday approaching, wholesale spot prices are expected to rise.
On the other hand, India's shrimp imports were only 10,357 tons, a 20% decrease year-on-year; Indonesian white shrimp imports saw a significant year-on-year increase of 263%, although the import volume base remains small.
Additionally, Venezuela dropped out of the top ten supplier countries, with sales in August of only 24 tons (compared to 561 tons in the same period last year). After the Venezuelan authorities took over Grupo Lamar, production issues have not been fundamentally resolved.
In the first eight months of this year, China's cumulative imports of frozen warm-water shrimp totaled 605,574 tons, a 1% decrease year-on-year. The average import price increased by 7% year-on-year to $5.18/kg.
