The Danish government has decided to phase out the supply of fast-growing chickens for all institutions and public canteens, supporting the EU-wide ban on fast-growing chickens. A new European study conducted by the University of Wageningen reveals that raising chickens following the standards of the European Chicken Commitment would result in a manageable increase in production costs, with a chicken meeting those standards costing only 0.29 euros more per kilo than a conventional chicken. Animal protection NGOs are advocating for the adoption of the European Chicken Commitment by companies involved in the sale and distribution of chicken meat to improve animal welfare.
