As of July, frozen mackerel accounted for approximately 7% of the total 549,690 tons of seafood imports in South Korea.
Norway remains the largest supplier of frozen mackerel to South Korea, with a supply volume of 31,530 tons, accounting for 80% of the total imports. This is followed by China (3,596 tons, 9%), the United Kingdom (1,557 tons), and the Netherlands (1,167 tons).
The overall average import price for frozen mackerel was $2.67 per kilogram, a 19% increase from $2.26 per kilogram last year. The price for Norwegian mackerel was $2.81 per kilogram, Chinese mackerel was $1.85 per kilogram, and British mackerel was $2.84 per kilogram.
The total import value from January to July reached $105.05 million, an 82% increase from $57.67 million in the same period of 2024. The import value for July alone was $1.86 million, a sharp increase of 550% from $0.28 million in July 2024.
