The article reports a significant growth in fish farming in the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan, with an 18-fold increase in the number of farms over the past four years, reaching a total of 70. The region has begun breeding sturgeon for the first time and has implemented a major fish farming and processing project with an annual capacity of 45 tons. The Ministry of Agriculture is planning to increase commercial fish production to 10,000 tons annually within five years. In addition, a unique fishery complex in the Almaty region is set to produce over 100 tons of barramundi, a type of fish, by the end of the year, as part of a project with a design capacity of 10,000 tons of fish per year. The project is expected to contribute to import substitution, increased domestic consumption, and exports.
