Russia has seen a 7% increase in the production of tomato products from 2019 to 2023, reaching 655 thousand tons, driven by a 15.4% increase in tomato paste and puree production. Despite this growth, the country's self-sufficiency in tomatoes remains at 65%, with a significant portion of the market (35%) relying on imports from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. The high demand for tomato products, especially mashed passata tomato pulp, is being met by domestic producers like TM "Pikanta" and new greenhouse farms, as well as by import substitution as a response to high prices for imported products due to sanctions. The profitability of greenhouse vegetables in 2023 hit a record 22.8%, with tomatoes showing higher growth dynamics than cucumbers, which have seen a 16.5% increase in production since 2018.
