The figure could be even higher, depending on the weather.
The potato harvest in Russia is expected to grow to 7.5-7.6 million tons by 2025. This was reported by the Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut at the opening of a potato fries production plant in Tatarstan.
"Last year, we harvested around 7.3 million tons. This year, we expect a 'potato' year. It should be around 7.5-7.6 million tons. It could be more, we will see how the weather turns out," said the minister.
The newly opened "Chisto Fri" plant in Tatarstan by the "Chistopol'e" agricultural holding can process around 40 thousand tons of potatoes per year. The enterprise has implemented a zero-waste production principle: the cleanings will be used to produce feed for farm animals. The plant is planned to reach its design capacity by 2030, creating over 280 new jobs.
