The Czech Republic's State Veterinary Administration has announced the expansion of the livestock infection danger zone for bluetongue disease to the entire country, effective October 30, 2024, in response to the disease's spread. First detected in September, this is the first outbreak in the Czech Republic in 15 years, with 67 foci identified to date. The disease, spread by insects, causes epizootics and mass animal deaths, but is not harmful to humans. As a precaution, livestock transport has been restricted. The disease is also spreading to other European countries.
