In the first half of 2020, Tajikistan's Sughd region saw a significant increase in the export of dried apricots, with a total of 5.23 thousand tons compared to 4.26 thousand tons in the same period last year, generating $2.2 million, a rise from $1.5 million in the first half of 2019. This growth is attributed to reduced unauthorized exports due to increased border control measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with dried apricots, the export of a mixture of dried fruits also saw an increase, while the export of other dried fruits like apples, plums, peaches, and pears decreased slightly. Overall, the region exported 9,788 tons of various dried fruits to 11 countries, a decrease from the 11 months of 2019, but with a shift in focus towards official, authorized exports.
