Over 1,000 chickens, geese and ducks have died in a village in North Kazakhstan from an outbreak of bird flu. The outbreak, which occurred between September 21 and 26, affected seven households and most of the dead animals were young ducks. The source of the disease is believed to be wild birds, and a quarantine has been imposed to contain the spread of the disease. Last year, bird flu resulted in the death of about a third of the region's bird population, leading to the culling of an estimated 1.3 million birds.
