In the Sea of Azov, near the occupied Kherson region's Henichesk, a significant illegal fishing operation has been uncovered, with over 35 tons of hamsa, along with 186 kg of Azov turbot and 60 kg of halibut, being illicitly harvested. The State Fisheries Agency of Ukraine has reported that the culprits aim to sell the stolen fish within the occupied territories and Russia, prompting the Heniche district police department to initiate criminal proceedings. The financial toll on Ukraine's fishing industry from this incident is estimated to exceed UAH 43 million, highlighting a broader pattern of environmental and economic exploitation in the Sea of Azov amid the ongoing occupation and unauthorized activities by Russian forces.
