Uzbekistan's Cabinet of Ministers has passed a bill banning the sale of chewing tobacco (nasvayu) in an effort to address a public health concern. The ban, included in a draft law regulating alcohol and tobacco market and winemaking, aims to combat the negative impacts of widespread homemade nasvai use, which is particularly high among Uzbek adolescents, at 6%, compared to lower rates in neighboring countries. The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization have highlighted this issue, leading to the decision to prohibit the sale of the substance to protect public health and economic welfare.
