(Incheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Min-jae = "Ganghwa Island rice," Incheon's representative brand rice, is being exported to Australia.
Incheon City held the "Incheon Agricultural Specialties Australia Export Agreement Ceremony" at Songdo Convensia on the 27th.
The agreement involved the city, Ganghwa County, Incheon Technopark, and Australian trading company AGS (Australian General Services).
According to the agreement, a ceremony commemorating the shipment of 10 tons of Ganghwa Island rice to Australia will be held on the 30th by the Ganghwa Agricultural Cooperative Rice Corporation (RPC).
This export volume will be supplied to local distributors in Melbourne, Australia.
The city also plans to export 11 items, worth 250 million won, produced by seven agricultural and processing companies in Incheon, through its permanent store in Sydney, Australia, by mid-next month.
The city signed an agreement with Canadian distributor KFT in 2022 and exported 150 tons of Ganghwa Island rice (worth 360 million won) and 73 agricultural products (worth 94 million won) to Canada.
Last year, permanent sales outlets were opened and are operating in three supermarkets in Toronto, Canada.
Ganghwa Island rice is grown in clean fields with abundant sunlight, microorganisms, and magnesium on Ganghwa Island, which has no pollution-causing facilities, and is highly evaluated for its good quality and excellent rice flavor.
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jung-bok said, "The quality of Incheon's agricultural and food products, including Ganghwa Island rice, is receiving a good response overseas" and "We will expand exports, focusing on areas with many overseas Koreans, based on this export agreement with Australia."
