More and more places are considering globally replacing corn with more drought-resistant crops that make better use of water. However, a few good yield years are holding back farmers from doing so. The corn season for Hungarian farmers has again turned out poorly. For example, in Békés – as Agrofórum Online also wrote – the average yield in the county was only 2.1 t/ha, but the national average is also forecasted to be around 5.6 t/ha. Good quality farmland, appropriate technology, and irrigation possibilities would solve many problems for domestic producers, allowing them to be profitable even in drought years. At the KITE Zrt. field demonstration in Nádudvar in early October, we could see how the integrator managed to produce a yield average of over 16 tons and a specific income of over half a million forints per hectare in corn (with significant irrigation).
