The Indian central government has extended the exemption of a specific inspection certificate required for rice exports to certain European nations, including the UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, for another six months. This applies to both basmati and non-basmati rice, meaning the Certificate of Inspection by the Export Inspection Council/Export Inspection Agency will not be mandatory for exports to these countries during this period. Previously, the government had set a minimum floor price for basmati rice exports and extended a 20% export duty on parboiled rice until March 31, 2024. Additionally, India had banned broken rice exports and imposed a 20% duty on non-basmati rice exports in September 2022, which was lifted in November.
