Vietnam's rice exports in the first 9 months of 2024 reached 7 million tons, valued at 4.37 billion USD, marking a 9.2% increase in volume and 23.5% increase in value over the previous year. The average export price was 624 USD/ton, a 13.1% increase from the previous year. India continued to be the world's largest rice exporter, followed by Vietnam and Thailand, despite an export ban on non-basmati white rice. India suspended the ban and reduced export tax on certain rice types due to increased harvest and high state reserves. The lifting of the ban had a negative impact on global rice export prices. Meanwhile, domestic rice prices in Vietnam increased due to storms and floods, leading to a decrease in supply. Vietnamese enterprises have been importing low-grade rice to meet domestic consumption needs and exporting high-quality rice.
