India's seafood exports experienced a significant growth in the 2022-2023 financial year, with an increase of 26.73% in quantity and 4.31% in value compared to the previous year. The country exported 13,69,264 tons of seafood worth Rs 57,586.48 crore (US$7,759.58 million). Frozen shrimp was the top export, followed by frozen fish, and the US and China were the largest importers. The exports consisted of various products including frozen shrimp, frozen fish, surimi, frozen octopus, canned foods, frozen lobsters, frozen squid, dried products, and live goods. The export of live goods and chilled products also saw a promising increase. The European Union, Southeast Asia, Japan, and the Middle East were other significant markets. The export of black tiger prawns to the US increased by 4.06% in quantity and 0.26% in rupee terms. China became the second largest seafood export destination with a growth of 51.90% in quantitative terms.
