The Indonesian government is contemplating to include palm oil in its online tracking system, SIMBARA, which was initially implemented to monitor coal movements. This move is aimed at enhancing accountability and governance in the palm oil industry by ensuring compliance with taxes, land permits, and other regulations. Since the introduction of SIMBARA for coal, the government has seen a 40% increase in revenue from coal sales. The inclusion of palm oil in SIMBARA will enable the government to collect more accurate sales data, thereby increasing revenue from the sector. The decision on when to include palm oil in SIMBARA will be made by the incoming President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
