Indonesia to ditch corn imports, boost domestic feed production

Indonesia’s Agriculture Ministry says it will not need to import feed corn in 2025, with domestic production sufficient to meet demand. “Most of the corn grown in Indonesia is used for feed purposes, and we guarantee that there will be no need for imports this year,” said Yudi Sastro, director general of the Food Crops Department, during the harvest in Bantul, Yogyakarta. This was made possible by the One Million Hectares for Corn program, implemented in cooperation with the National Police and regional governments. According to the department, national corn reserves are at a safe level, and production has doubled, similar to rice. Moreover, Indonesia has started exporting corn through the ports of Surabaya, the West Lesser Sunda Islands, and Gorontalo.
