The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in Indonesia has reported a notable increase in tuna exports to the European Union, with a 17.4% rise in volume and a 4.3% increase in export value year on year. Despite this, global fishery prices have fallen, impacting other commodities like shrimp. So far this year, 374.69 million tons of skipjack tuna have been exported to Europe. Yellowfin tuna is the dominant export type, with Italy and Spain being the main destinations. However, the ministry faces challenges in meeting the EU's traceability certification requirements and is responding by implementing Measured Fishing (PIT) regulations to ensure compliance with quality, traceability, sustainability, and safety standards.
