The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation in Peru has approved the release of a new tarwi variety, INIA 445-Masacanchino, to improve productivity and profitability for producers in Junín and Huancavelica regions. The crop is also expected to combat malnutrition due to its high quality and nutritional benefits. The new variety, developed by the National Program for Cereals, Andean Grains and Legumes, has a higher profitability index and lower yield variability than the local control variety.
