"It has been reported that the U.S. government is significantly strengthening the standards of the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), causing alarm regarding exports to the U.S." Han Mung-chul, chairman of the Jeonnam Food Export Association, stated, "Major seafood processed products in the Jeonnam region, such as dried pollack and shrimp paste, are facing the risk of U.S. export restrictions" and called for "an urgent and proactive response strategy and measures from the government." Chairman Han said, "In particular, if the U.S. MMPA measures are fully implemented starting from January next year, not only will there be a decrease in fishery sales, but there is a high possibility that the damage will spread throughout the entire industry" and expressed concern that "the impact on the regional economy will be significant, urging the government to take prompt action."
