The India Pulses & Grains Association (IPGA) has called on the Indian government to replace tur dal, which is experiencing a price increase due to expected production drops in the current crop year, with other pulses such as lentils, masoor, and chana for the government's mid-day meal project. The government has extended import permissions for tur and urad pulses until March 31, 2024. The IPGA is also seeking cash incentives and fresh subsidies to increase pulses exports from 500,000 tonnes in FY23 to 1 million tonnes in FY24. The industry is also concerned about the potential impact of El Nino on monsoon rains and pulses production.
