In a proactive move before Pesach, the Jewish Passover, Israeli Ministry of Agriculture inspectors ramped up their border checks and successfully intercepted two smuggling attempts at the Bekaa crossing, totaling approximately 9 tons of various vegetables. The first attempt involved around 8.5 tons of vegetables and 72 bottles of pickled cucumber with falsified documentation from the Palestinian Authority, aimed for Kiryat Ata's market. The second attempt saw 350 kg of vegetables hidden in a commercial vehicle, intended for the Haifa market. Both incidents led to the confiscation and destruction of the produce and the initiation of criminal proceedings against the involved drivers, highlighting the ministry's dedication to public health and agricultural protection by regulating agricultural product imports.
