Substitutes for meat, eggs, and other such foods are already available on European markets, but honey substitutes have surprised many. For reasons of economy and occasionally environmental protection, the food industry often comes up with various substitute products. Meat substitutes, egg substitutes, and other such foods have not particularly won over consumers so far, and it seems the latest of these products is also doomed to fail. The American company MeliBio was founded in California in 2020, and their primary goal is to replace honey with another type of food for human consumption. They themselves call their product plant-based or vegan honey, but it did not pass the scrutiny of the German Patent Office.
