Kenyan fresh avocados will soon be allowed in the Chinese market, following a strict pest and disease analysis by China and Kenya's phytosanitary inspection and quarantine departments. However, the cost of exporting frozen avocados, a temporary solution due to fruit fly issues, is high and most exporters cannot afford it. With over 10 companies eager to export to China and the Kenyan production season lasting from mid-February to November, the Chinese market is set to become the largest overseas market for Kenya's avocados, accounting for approximately 40% of the country's production.
