The Japanese government has increased quarantine and customs clearance for Korean processed foods containing zucchini due to the detection of non-approved genetically modified (LMO) zucchini in 18 products. As a result, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is now requesting safety certificates for these products. This has led to additional quarantine and customs clearance procedures for Korean processed foods containing zucchini in Japan. The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) has recommended that when exporting processed foods including zucchini to Japan, the name of the raw material should be marked as zucchini to avoid negative impacts on exports.
